Abstract

How many worlds of education are there? Many, according to the anthology of the Graduate Center International-vergleichende Forschung zu Bildung und Bildungspolitik im Wohlfahrtsstaat at Tübingen. Too many, if one reads some of the articles addressing the equality of opportunity for children, especially in Germany.
On everyone's lips are the studies about educational systems from PISA, the OECD countries, and the Bertelsmann Foundation, but only the catchphrases are widely known. The book contains systematized introductions to educational research, supplemented by detailed data and practical examples. The internationally comparative analyses offer a wide variety and stimuli for future research. At the same time they show how closely education is entangled with the history and culture of societies and other political areas.
