The Media User: The Unknown Element

Mass media serve a widely dispersed and anonymous public about whom they know little more than statistical figures. The individual media-user largely remains a mystery. How do the media deal with this inherent difficulty, and how do they attempt to direct and shape their reception (and recipients) in spite of it? The first in the three-volume series Formationen der Mediennutzung, this collection of academic essays is edited by Irmela Schneider and Christina Bartz from the standpoint of media studies and delves into the thematisation and forming of media usage in connection with major media events.
