Abstract

Der Sammelband gibt die Beiträge einer Tagung der Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung wieder, die im Frühjahr 2006 an der Politischen Akademie Berlin stattfand. In sieben Aufsätzen widmen sich die Autoren, die unterschiedlichen wissenschaftlichen Disziplinen (Geschichte, Politik, Kunstgeschichte, Theologie) angehören, dem spannungsreichen Verhältnis von Papsttum und Politik in Geschichte und Gegenwart. Im Mittelpunkt steht dabei die Frage nach der stets ambivalenten Stellung der römisch-katholischen Kirche und ihres Oberhauptes zur Moderne.
