Open Access Policy

On_Culture provides open access to its content to make research freely available to the public. It thereby supports a greater global exchange of knowledge and fosters collaborative, dialogic and open-ended research on the study of culture. For information about how to cite the material, please refer to the individual contributions.

On_Culture is positioned within the context of international Open Access strategies and explicitly supports the Budapest Open Access Initiative (February 2002), as well as the Bethesda Statement (June 2003) and the Berlin Declaration (October 2003). Therefore, On_Culture publishes in accordance with the Priority Initiative “Digital Information” of the German Research Foundation and the Open Access Resolution of the Justus-Liebig-University Giessen. Publishing in On_Culture is free of charge for anyone, there are no article processing charges (APC) or other publication fees.

To further support these goals, especially in regard to scholar-led academic publishing, we are a proud member of the Radical Open Access Collective.

All content is archived within an online repository (the Giessener Elektronische Bibliothek), equipped with permanent and referenceable addresses, and accessible with/by the standard national and international library catalogues or research engines. All documents will be archived long-term and are protected by a Creative Commons license (CC BY 4.0). This service is free of charge for all authors of On_Culture. All content is also automatically archived with the Deutsche Nationalbibliothek, the German national library’s archive.

On_Culture is widely indexed and retrievable, e.g. WorldCat, BASEGoogle Scholar, ERIH PLUS, Sherpa Romeo, EBSCO, and the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).
